Super Mario Galaxy Film Teaser Arrives, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination shared the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. The reveal happened in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that centered on the upcoming animated film.
The sequel to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the far corners of the universe. Along the way, he discovers a new princess and a challenging new adversary in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
An Interstellar Journey Inspired by Beloved Titles
Much like the Wii console classics that act as its source material, Mario will depart from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some well-known personalities, including the Luma, a popular character from the previous film.
But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will confront a new threat in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The film will feature once again of the initial voice actors, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. It was announced by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Significant Period for Mario
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release close to the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Apart from the cinematic release, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his allies.
Nintendo has a trio of new releases officially announced for the upcoming year, including Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
