A senior officer who rushed to the assistance of a colleague that was assaulted by a knifeman has been awarded the King's Commendation for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a blade to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the law enforcement personnel and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver after a traffic accident in that location in mid-2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.

"Officer attacked," the constable was heard to say over his communication device.

Officer-mounted and dashboard camera video made public by the police department depicted Brown, wearing in black with a head covered, approach to Sgt Foster from behind with a weapon pointed forward.

He collided with the officer who tripped and dropped to the pavement, after which Sergeant Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the ground although being repeatedly struck with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a open target, concluding the fight to an end.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Please provide help on my neck now, I got knifed in the neck."

Sgt Ansell suffered multiple deep cuts to his neck and further cuts to his limbs and body, whereas Sgt Foster received slash wounds.

The department said Sgt Foster employed his hands to control his fellow officer's bleeding before medical personnel came.

The new award follows after the trio of policemen won departmental Courage Honors in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the local Police Federation in early 2024.

They were also awarded a Regional Courage Honor in July 2024.

"The responses of each policeman in the end rescued themselves and resulted in no civilians endured any injuries."

Brown received a sentence to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, according to officials.
