Adolescent Found Deceased Following False Allegations of Taking Ashes
One teenage youth was found dead just days after being falsely blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a burglary, an inquest has learned.
Tragic Finding
Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his room at his Flintshire residence on 19 November 2021.
False Accusations Start
The inquest learned how his mother got a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Inform him appreciation for burgling my flat."
In a statement read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, asserting her baby's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.
Police Investigation
An official inquiry from authorities later determined the alleged break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the items was not stolen in the beginning".
Media reports about the alleged taken remains attracted online comments, and although Kai was not identified in the messages, his mother said people "knew it was him".
The "social media content were really distressing", she stated.
Emotional Wellbeing Effect
She added that Kai had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views genuinely were important to him.
"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was not true".
The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was found. He was transported to a police station and later freed under investigation.
Police said they would be in contact, the inquest heard, but had failed to reached out to the family by the time of his passing.
Withdrawal and Worry
His mother said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".
When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son informed her he had gone into the house because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he wanted, but denied taking anything.
Online Harassment
In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being harassed digitally after the accusations.
The inquest learned that a young adult urged Kai to end his life.
She had no concerns on the night before he died, describing how she had heard him "laughing and joking".
She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "family is totally devastated".
He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".
Educational Reaction
The inquest heard from educational staff at the local secondary school.
On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".
"He told me... he'd was innocent," she continued.
After the discussion, the educator said she called the family's family landline and provided a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.
The court learned his family said they never got that communication.
Formal Conclusion
Senior coroner told the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.
Delivering a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.
"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of online networks.
"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and after his questioning he was freed whilst inquiries continued."
The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the actions or failures of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to discern his purpose."
